A readymade Nauvari arrives already stitched into the kashta shape. You step into it, fasten the waist, and you are done in about a minute. No pleating, no safety pins, no one hovering to help. If you have ever been late to a function because nine yards defeated you, this is what fixes it.

A traditional Nauvari is one continuous nine-yard length that you drape yourself. It takes practice, but the fall is yours to control, and many women prefer it for exactly that reason.

Choosing the fabric

• Cotton and semi-silk (₹1,499 – ₹3,299) — light, breathable, and the sensible choice for a full day in September heat. Haldi, Gauri Poojan, daytime functions, office festival days.
• Silk-blend (₹3,000 – ₹6,599) — more body, better fall, richer under photography lights. The middle ground most customers land on.
• Pure silk (₹10,000 and above) — heaviest drape, deepest colour. The Rajmata sits here.

How to drape a Nauvari

Tuck the plain end at the waist and wrap once. Bring the remaining length between the legs and tuck it firmly at the centre back — that tuck is the kashta, and it is what makes a Nauvari a Nauvari. Pleat the front, take the pallu over the left shoulder, and pin it at the shoulder.

Expect two or three attempts before it sits properly. If that sounds like more effort than you want on a festival morning, buy readymade.
