A Paithani lehenga choli takes the borders and pallu motifs Maharashtra loves in a Paithani saree (peacocks, parrots, lotuses and gold buttis) and puts them on a flared skirt that needs no draping. This guide covers what comes in our lehenga sets, how the size works, how to get the blouse stitched, which colour suits which function, and how to style and care for it.
What comes in a Paithanistore lehenga set?
Every lehenga in our Paithani lehenga collection is a complete set of four pieces:
- Lehenga: fully stitched, free size, ready to wear.
- Dupatta: a matching designer dupatta, ready to drape.
- Blouse material: 1 metre of matching designer fabric, unstitched, so the blouse fits you exactly.
- Potli: a matching potli bag, included in the price.
So the only thing left to do is stitch the blouse. Nothing else needs to be bought separately.
Is the lehenga fully stitched? What size is it?
Yes. The lehenga (skirt) is fully stitched. It is free size: the waist has a drawstring tie (dori) and elastic, so it fits waists up to 42 to 44 inches. You tighten the dori to your waist, and the elastic keeps it comfortable through a long function or a night of garba.
How to get the blouse stitched
The set includes 1 metre of blouse material. You can give it to your own tailor, or add our Blouse Stitching service to your order:
- Simple blouse, non-padded: ₹1,199
- Simple blouse, padded: ₹1,499
- Designer blouse (custom neck design), non-padded: ₹1,899
- Designer blouse, padded: ₹2,199
After you order, our team contacts you for your measurements: shoulder, chest, waist, front and back neck depth, blouse length, sleeve length, sleeve round and armhole, all in inches. If you can't measure yourself, we help you get it right before stitching.
Which colour for which function?
- Haldi: yellow is the traditional haldi colour. Our yellow soft silk Paithani lehenga set has a lotus border and a peacock Paithani dupatta.
- Wedding and sakharpuda: peach-gold or off-white with red. See the peach-gold lehenga with red dupatta and the off-white lehenga with red Paithani dupatta.
- Garba and Navratri: a free-size lehenga with an elastic waist is easy to dance in. The rama blue lehenga with lotus dupatta and the yellow set are bright, festive choices.
- Diwali, Gudi Padwa and Ganpati: any of the sets; gold zari catches lamp light beautifully.
Paithani lehenga or Paithani saree?
A lehenga needs no draping and stays in place while you dance, sit for rituals or run around managing the function, which is why many brides choose one for haldi, mehendi and sangeet. The bride's main wedding look in Maharashtra is still usually a Paithani or Nauvari saree. Many families do both: a lehenga for the pre-wedding functions and a saree for the wedding. How to style a Paithani lehenga
- Jewellery: Maharashtrian pieces suit Paithani motifs: a nath, thushi or a short gold necklace, and green or red glass bangles.
- Dupatta: drape it over one shoulder and let the pallu fall at the back, or pin it like a half-saree pallu across the front for a more traditional look.
- Hair: a bun with a gajra, or loose waves for sangeet and garba.
- Bag: the matching potli in the set holds your phone and essentials. For a reception look, add a Paithani clutch purse; more styles are in Paithani purses and clutches.
Caring for your lehenga
- Dry clean only.
- Store the lehenga and dupatta folded in a cotton cloth, away from damp and direct sunlight.
- Refold every few months so the zari border doesn't crease in one place.
- Keep perfume and deodorant away from the zari.
